Billing software for Jaipur's shops, old city and new.

For Jaipur counters that restock from Muhana and the grain mandi and bill in Hindi, with udhaar and godown stock in the same app.

Jaipur was built as a planned city. Jai Singh II, the Kachhwaha ruler of Amer, founded it on 18 November 1727, and it was designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Huge ramparts went up around it, pierced by seven fortified gates, and the old city inside those walls is still where many of Jaipur's best-known bazaars sit. Tourism, gemstone cutting, jewellery making and luxury textiles drive the city's economy, and Jaipur is one of India's largest makers of hand-knotted rugs.

The bazaars of the old city each have a trade of their own. Johari Bazaar takes its name from the word for jeweller and is famous for gold, kundan and meenakari pieces, with fabric and clothing shops in the same busy lanes. Bapu Bazaar is known for mojaris, colourful fabrics, scarves and bags. Kishanpole Bazaar is listed for woodwork and textiles, and Tripolia Bazaar for rows of lac bangles, brassware and carpets. A shop in these lanes may serve a tourist and a regular local customer within the same hour.

The city's grocery supply runs through the mandis. Muhana Mandi is described by Rajasthan Patrika as the largest vegetable mandi in the state, and the paper reports its wholesale rates through the traders' associations, with onions priced by where they come from, such as Nashik or Madhya Pradesh. Government price records also list a separate Jaipur grain market, with bajra, jowar, gur and sugar among its commodities. For a kirana, this means stock arrives in sacks and crates and reaches the shelf a few kilos at a time.

Hindi is the first language of most of the city. In the 2011 census about 70 percent of Jaipur residents gave Hindi as their first language, close to 10 percent Rajasthani, about 6 percent Urdu, over 4 percent Marwari, nearly 4 percent Dhundari and about 2.5 percent Sindhi. The Bazaar IQ app runs in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati. It does not have Marwari screens, so a shopkeeper who speaks Marwari at home can run the app in Hindi. This website has pages in Marwari.

Every GSTIN registered in Rajasthan begins with the state code 08. A regular dealer prints tax invoices with HSN codes and tax split into CGST and SGST. A composition shop gets a proper Bill of Supply carrying the composition line the law requires, and an unregistered shop prints a plain cash memo. Regular customers who buy on credit are kept in a khata that is part of billing, so a credit sale updates their balance the moment the bill is saved.

A Hindi counter, start to finish

A helper at a kirana in the old city or out in the newer colonies can open the billing screen in Hindi, scan a packet of namkeen with the phone camera, type in loose dal by name, and save the bill. An item not yet in the catalogue can still be billed. If the connection drops, an open billing screen keeps working and syncs once it is back.

From mandi sacks to the shelf

When the morning’s buying comes back from Muhana or the grain market, enter it as storage stock. As you refill the shelf, the shelf count rises and the godown count falls, so at closing you know both without a separate register. See how inventory handles this.

The right bill for your registration

Regular dealers print GST tax invoices with HSN and CGST/SGST. Composition shops get a Bill of Supply with the composition line, and unregistered shops a cash memo. Credit for regular customers sits in the khata.

Questions from shops in Jaipur

Can my Jaipur staff use Bazaar IQ in Marwari?

The app has no Marwari screens. It runs in Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati, so a Marwari-speaking owner or helper can bill in Hindi. This website has Marwari pages if you want to read about the app in Marwari.

I buy vegetables at Muhana and grain in sacks. How do I record that stock?

Record the purchase into storage (godown) stock. As goods move onto the shelf, display stock goes up and storage goes down, and the two counts stay separate.

Does it print GST bills for a Rajasthan GSTIN?

Yes. A regular dealer with a GSTIN starting 08 gets tax invoices with HSN and CGST/SGST. A composition shop gets a Bill of Supply with the required composition line, and an unregistered shop a plain cash memo.

Does Bazaar IQ have an office in Jaipur?
